Friend Killed: Drunk Driving, 12 Drinks – A Story of Loss and Lessons Learned

This isn't easy to write. Losing Mark still feels like a punch to the gut, even after all this time. He was my best friend, you know? We'd been inseparable since middle school – through awkward teenage years, college shenanigans, and the whole "figuring-out-life" thing. Then, one stupid night, poof. Gone. 2. Speak Up: Don't be afraid to call out your friends. If someone's had too much to drink and wants to drive, take their keys. It's not being a buzzkill; it's saving lives. Your friend might be mad at the moment, but they’ll thank you later (or their family will).

3. Know the Limits: And stick to them. This applies to everyone, not just the person driving. Knowing your limits with alcohol is vital. Everyone has a different tolerance level, but it's important to know your own. A "responsible amount of drinks" varies from person to person. Don't push your limits.

4. Support Organizations: There are groups out there dedicated to helping people affected by drunk driving. MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) is one of them. They offer support, resources, and advocacy work. They have helped me significantly.

Losing Mark shattered my world. But his memory fuels my determination to prevent similar tragedies. Twelve drinks cost him his life. Let's make sure it doesn't cost anyone else's. Let's talk about it. Let's raise awareness. Let's drive change.
